NEWS & RECORD: Inside Scoop: Manning gets big-name endorsement in 13th District race

Greensboro congressional candidate Kathy Manning added a feather to her cap today with an endorsement from a giant of North Carolina Democratic politics, former Gov. Jim Hunt.

Hunt said in a prepared statement that he backs Manning as the Democratic candidate for the state’s 13th District U.S. House seat because of her strong values and her commitment to “building her community.”

“Washington is broken and Kathy is the leader we need,” Hunt said. “She will bring people together to get things done for North Carolina, just like she always has.”

If elected in November, Manning said she would fight for public education just as Hunt did during his political career that included four terms as governor.

The district currently is represented by first-term U.S. Rep. Ted Budd (R-Advance).

A local civic leader, philanthropist and former immigration attorney, Manning faces a fellow Greensboro Democrat in the May primary, local businessman, cattleman and independent trucker Adam Coker.
